Discover Nature
Labrador is a great place to be outdoors. Along the coast there are magnificent icebergs and spectacular whale shows. The are many coves and bays to be explored away from today's communities — places once occupied by ancient Aboriginal peoples or early settlers, but which are now quiet and serene.

There is a myriad of flora awaiting identification — a unique mix of arctic and alpine plant life that is impressive in its variety and beauty.

Birdwatchers will also find a mix of species. In Labrador there are birds adapted to boreal forest, taiga and arctic environs, and the coastline abounds with a variety of seabirds.

A truly unforgettable sight for any outdoor enthusiast is the George River caribou herd. Numbering about 406,000 animals, it's one of the largest barrenground caribou herds in the world. Each year the herd migrates from spring calving areas to winter feeding grounds.

Naturalists will discover a wealth of resources in Labrador. With its small and sparse human population today, the greater part of Labrador's natural environment is pristine and unaltered from its natural state.
