The inaugural Great Labrador Canoe Race was held on August 28, 2010 with 38 canoes registered and over $8,000 in cash and prizes awarded to dozens of participants. This family event held on the meandering Churchill River provided local residents and visitors to Labrador with an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, large Labrador skies and enjoy some good old-fashion competitive recreation and fun. The Great Labrador Canoe Race was established to showcase a rich history of travel by canoe in Labrador. Event themes included small boat safety and activity while showcasing Labrador's trapping heritage and the importance of the canoe for accessing the wonders of interior Labrador.
