Battle Harbour Fun Day
A Labrador Coastal Drive Annual Event
Each year Battle Harbour Heritage Properties invites family and friends of former residents to join staff, guests and volunteers to participate in games of chance, traditional skills and typical outport Garden Party food service.
Activities vary year to year and are somewhat weather dependent with games of chance and skills located in the Salmon Store loft - eg. bean bag toss, fish pond, grab bags, 50/50 draw etc.
Games that test more traditional skills, such as nail driving and net mending, are set up outside. And, weather permitting, dory races are held in "the tickle" - the body of water that separates Battle and Great Caribou Island.
Home made foods (eg. chili, soup, baked beans, fish and brewis, sandwiches) are served on the wharves near the Pork Store overhang and BBQ hot dogs, cold drinks and confectionary items. Additional items are available in the General Store.
Site admission is free for the day and special round trip passenger ferry fares are usually offered by the independent firm that provides the twice daily service between Mary's Harbour and Battle Island. Residents from neighbouring communities of Lodge Bay, Mary's Harbour and St Lewis usually get together in small groups and travel on private boats.
NOTE: Guided tours of the National Historic Site will NOT be offered on Fun Day as all hands will be tied up with other responsibilities
