Battle Harbour

Museums & Historic Places
Steeped in Labrador's economic and social history, Battle Harbour offers a unique experience that portrays a lifestyle built around this small island's fishery and historical importance as the former Salt Fish Capital of Labrador and as one of Canada's National Historic Districts. Battle Harbour was established in the mid 1700s and has played key roles in Newfoundland and Labrador's commercial fishery, Dr. Wilfred Grenfell's work in rural healthcare, polar expeditions and Labrador's communications and policing services. With its restored premises, artifacts, tours and tourist services, Battle Harbour provides visitors with opportunities to visit for a day or stay overnight in one of six heritage homes.
